Lev Manovich, UC San Diego, delivers a paradigm on the quantitative end in the humanities, Cultural Analytics. The project is Visualizing Patterns in Databases of Cultural Images and Video. The focus is on automatic analysis of visual and media culture: video games, mass media, visual art and cinema.
The intent is analyzing cultural documents through information visualization, currently limited to the study of formal qualities of historical works of Art.

Presentation of the “WeTab 3G” Android slate by Neofonie’s CEO, based in Berlin, Germany. This is a well designed interface, with a 16:9 Format, 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor, 1.3 MP webcam (for instant messaging and Video Conferences), two USB sockets, a flash card reader, integrated WWAN modem, and GMA3150 graphics. With the two USB sockets, the WeTab will allow external devices such as USB keyboards, USB drives and more. It has multi-tasking support, Bluetooth 2.1, Wi-Fi, optional GPS, an ambient light & motion sensor, and an internal fan.
The We-Magazine Ecosystem for publishers could be a great way for publishers and authors to build relationships directly with the customer, rather than through third party distributors. Authors with no e-book or online experience could use the tools offered and be able to distribute their content online.

“The goal of the PSA is to encourage citizens to stand up for public workers in violent confrontations. The augmented reality billboard, placed above a busy intersection in Amsterdam, shows a real-time view of the street below but superimposes a green screen-filmed street fight into the otherwise empty curb space. As passersby stop to stare at themselves on the billboard, they are confronted with a tense altercation occurring right in front of them.”

Volkswagen’s has produced a brilliant two-wheeler for ecological and sustainable mobility for the future. VW has a team designing unconventional solutions like the eBike, which can be folded and stored in the spare tire compartment. It means taking additional mobility with you, beyond the car itself. This is a new category of sustainable products supplementing cars, by being good for the environment, and a joy to use.
